Arcane Artillerist

Role:The Arcane Artillerist provides the heavy firepower for the Dwarven Army. Utilizing the range of their Heavy crossbows the Artillerist is able to rain down destruction on the enemies of the dwarven empire.

Alignment: No alignment requirements

Hit Die: D10

Skill Points 4+ Int mod Class Skills Knowledge Arcane, Perception, Ride, Survival

Class Abilities

Enhance Ammunition

Every Bolt fired by the Arcane Artillerist is enhanced with the force of the Artillerist's will. These bolts gain a enhancement bonus of +1 at first level and increase by +1 every odd Artillerist level. These bolts do not require time or gold expenditure to create but follow all the rules of magical ammunition.

At third level the Artillerist may add the following enchantments, sacrificing the appropriate enhancement bonus to do so. Brilliant energy, Corrosive, Corrosive Burst, Lesser Designating, Greater Designating, Distance, Flaming, Flaming Burst, Frost, Icy Burst, Merciful, Seeking, Shock, Shocking Burst. The bolt must have at least a +1 bonus remaining in order to apply the enchantments.

The Artillerist sets this formula when he prepares his spells and can change it with a full round action.

Imbue Ammunition

At 2nd level, an Arcane Artillerist gains the ability to place an area spell upon a bolt. When the bolt is fired, the spells area is centered on the square in which his target occupied. A spell cast in this way uses a standard action and the Arcane Artillerist can fire this bolt as part of the casting. The bolt must be fired in the round that the casting is completed or it is wasted. If the bolt misses the target the spell is wasted.

Strength of the Bow

When the Artillerist uses his imbue bolt ability the DC of the save is increased by the enhancement bonus of the bow or bolt, whichever is higher.

And Your Friends Too

As a standard action you create exact duplicates of the crossbow bolt you used to kill a creature in the previous round and launch one at enemy creatures within a 30-foot radius of the corpse. You can target one creature per Artillerist level (maximum 10) within range of the burst and must make a single attack roll and apply it to each arrow. These duplicate arrows possess all the intrinsic magical properties of the arrow that killed the original creature as well as those passed on to it by your bow. They also enjoy the full benefit of any bonuses or modifiers you applied to the attack from other magical items, feats, and class or racial features. However, this spell cannot reproduce any spells or other limited-use magical effects that you used to enhance that particular attack. This includes such effects as the true strike spell, as well as any area spell you might have placed on the arrow by means of the Imbue Ammunition ability. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to half your Arcane Artillerist level.

Rainmaker

In lieu of his regular attacks, once per day an Arcane Artilerist of 8th level or higher can fire an arrow at each and every target within range, to a maximum of one target for every arcane archer level she has earned. Each attack uses the archer's primary attack bonus, and each enemy may only be targeted by a single arrow.

Directed Fire

When the Artillerist uses his Imbue Ammunition ability he may change the area of effect of the spell.

  • 15ft cone = 10ft radius = 30ft line
  • 30ft cone = 20ft Radius = 60 ft line

The Artillerist may use this ability 3+ his casting stat modifier per day.
